A man facing a charge in court used the lunch-time break to assault his estranged partner.
The incident occurred July 16, shortly before noon. According to RCMP, the unnamed man was in Campbell River provincial court facing a charge of breaching his probation conditions.
The probation stems from an assault conviction involving the same woman.
The man left court, went to his former partner’s apartment and struck her. He was taken into custody and pleaded guilty the next day.
He was given a short jail sentence.
Highly-impaired driver
On July 19, around 10 p.m., police were conducting a road check, looking to stop drunk drivers, when they spotted a vehicle attempting to evade the check stop near Saratoga Road.
Police stopped the vehicle and found a 26-year-old female driver who displayed signs of intoxication.
She was arrested and taken back to the police detachment where it was determined she was more than three times over the legal limit.
Her vehicle was impounded and she is now facing impaired driving charges.
Man sucker-punched
A man well-known to Mounties is facing an assault charge following an incident early Saturday morning.
According to police, it was around 2:20 a.m., when another man was waiting for a taxi outside a nightclub on Ironwood Road.
The man was then “sucker punched” by another man.
The victim is okay and police are looking for anyone who witnessed the incident.
