POLICE BEAT: Car flips, impaired driver charge

Crash on Alder Street left one car upside down in the front yard and two other vehicles heavily damaged in the driveway

A 29-year-old Calgary woman is facing impaired driving charges after a Nov. 15 crash on Alder Street that left one car upside down in the front yard and two other vehicles heavily damaged in the driveway.

Just before 2 a.m. police responded to the accident in the 100 block of Alder. The driver was located at the scene being tended to by witnesses and BC Ambulance. An odour of liquor was detected on the female driver’s breath. A screening device was used and resulted in a fail reading. The driver was treated at hospital and released. Breath samples were then obtained resulting in readings one and a half times over the legal limit.

This incident was one of 246 calls for service handled by the Campbell River RCMP last week.

Canada Post scam

RCMP Staff Sergeant Troy Beauregard says there have been reports of people receiving an email that appears to be from Canada Post.

The message line states “Failed Package Delivery” and appears to be regarding delivery tracking for a parcel.

The email asks people to click on two links.

Canada Post asks customers not to click on any links or open documents if they are not expecting a package.

If you do have a package to track please go to the Canada Post website and enter the tracking number directly.

Distracted drivers

Police will be increasing enforcement to nab distracted drivers using their cell phones behind the wheel.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Troy Beauregard says: “Please refrain from the use of electronic devices while operating your vehicles. Failing to do so may result in a fine of $167.”

Pedestrian safety

With the grey, rainy days and longer hours of darkness upon us the police are reminding pedestrians to dress to be seen and use caution when crossing streets.

“Motorists are reminded that it is more difficult to see pedestrians in the inclement weather and to take a second look before proceeding through intersections and completing turns,” RCMP Staff Sergeant Troy Beauregard says.
