100 Mile House RCMP responded to 103 calls for service during the past week. Some highlights are as follows:
Boat patrols
On Aug. 14, 100 Mile House RCMP continued with the seasonal policing initiative by conducting a boat patrol on Horse Lake and Lac la Hache.
Notices were issued for not having all required safety equipment, not having operator’s cards in possession and fishing violations.
One operator was charged for not having enough personal flotation devices on board for each of the occupants.
Business break-in
On Aug. 13, police were called to a report of shed that had been broken into at a business located on the 200 block of Exeter Station Road.
There was nothing taken; however, two weeks prior the shed had been broken into and two jerry cans of fuel were taken. This last incident is believed to have occurred overnight.
Rear-end collision
On Aug. 12, RCMP members were called to a report of a motor vehicle incident (MVI) on Horse Lake Road near Blackstock Road.
A vehicle travelling eastbound on Horse Lake Road had slowed for oncoming traffic waiting to turn into the Uptown Plaza.
A vehicle heading the same direction crashed into the rear of the vehicle waiting to make the turn. There were no injuries.
The driver of the second vehicle was charged for following too close and was also charged for having open liquor in a motor vehicle.
However, the driver was not impaired by alcohol after a roadside breath test was conducted to rule out the possibility of alcohol impairment.
Traffic was temporarily diverted through the strip mall parking lot due to the collision.
Shoplifter caught
On Aug. 12, RCMP responded to a report of a shoplifting incident at a business at the Cariboo Mall.
A male had been seen taking a number of items from the store, including food items and magazines and then he left without paying.
Surveillance was viewed by police and the male was recognized by the member from previous interactions.
A 47-year-old 100 Mile House resident was subsequently located and arrested for theft. He has since been released for court at a later date, and is not permitted to return to the store.
Early morning break-in
On Aug. 11, police were called to a report of a break-and-enter to a vacant building located on the 400 block of Cedar Avenue.
A window had been smashed and entry gained. Nothing was known to be taken.
The incident occurred just after 4 a.m. No suspects were located inside the building.
Excessive speed
On Aug. 11, Cariboo Chilcotin Traffic Services stopped a vehicle on Highway 97 near 87 Mile Loop Road for excessive speed.
The vehicle was travelling more than 60 km/h faster than the posted speed limit of 110 km/h.
The driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Shoplifter arrested
On Aug. 11, police were called to a report of a shoplifter at a business located on the 100 block of Birch Avenue.
Clothing had been taken and the male suspect fled from the store. Police viewed surveillance and recognized the male who was well known to the RCMP and previously involved in property crime in the community.
He was located and arrested for theft and held for a bail hearing. The 42-year-old resident of 100 Mile House was subsequently released by the courts for a first appearance at a later date.
Wine barrels recovered
On Aug. 10, RCMP were called to a report of a break-and-enter to a business located on the 300 block of Exeter Station Road.
Four half wine barrels were taken and then later observed by the property representative near an abandoned building further down Exeter Station Road. The wine barrels were recovered.
It is believed to have occurred sometime overnight.
Flower pot theft
On Aug. 9, police were advised of a theft of gardening flower pots on the 4000 block of Smith Road in the 108 Mile Ranch.
It is believed to have occurred sometime overnight.
Inquiries made with other residents on the same street advised of similar thefts of outdoor yard items in the last few days prior to this incident.
Unsafe change
On Aug. 9, RCMP were called to a report of an MVI on Canim-Hendrix Lake Road near Canim Place.
It was learned that a tractor trailer was slowing and turning left off the highway onto Canim Place. A truck behind the tractor trailer attempted to pass and collided into the side of the tractor.
Both vehicles sustained severe damage.
Neither driver suffered injury and the driver of the truck was charged under the Motor Vehicle Act for an unsafe lane change.
Mail box pried open
On Aug. 9, police were called to a report that a Canada Post mail box had been damaged on Highway 24 and Airmail Road in Lone Butte.
The mail box had been pried open. On the same date Canada Post advised of a similar incident on Highway 24 and Fawn Creek Road where another mail box had been pried but not opened.
It is not not known if mail was taken from the mail box that was opened.
Over embankment
On Aug. 8, RCMP responded to an MVI on Highway 97 near Maze Lake Road.
It was learned that an SUV towing a travel trailer heading northbound crossed the centreline striking another vehicle on the rear driver’s area.
The SUV and trailer went off the highway and rolled down an embankment.
Another vehicle attempting to avoid the collision also went off the road down an embankment. All vehicles involved received extensive damage.
The occupants from the SUV were taken to Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake with what was believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
Police continue to investigate.
100 km/h in 50 km/h zone
On Aug. 8, RCMP stopped a vehicle on Highway 97 near Exeter Station Road for excessive speed.
The vehicle was travelling more than double the posted speed limit of 50 km/h. As a result the driver was issued a violation ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
