The police received a report of a stolen bicycle from the Oak Bay Recreation Centre on Jan. 18. The thief stole the unlocked bicycle from the covered bicycle lock up area in front of complex. Police discovered a suspect through surveillance video and the investigation is ongoing to identify the individual. The bicycle is described as a women’s black fixie style touring bicycle, 7 speed internal hub, with blue pedals valued about $400. Jan. 20 police received a second report of a stolen bicycle this time at the University of Victoria. The suspect defeated the lock to take the men’s black GT Karakoma mountain bicycle with 29″ wheels, blue and red stripes, and had blue pedals and grips that matched the blue stripes valued about $900.Speed leads to impaired stop
During a late night patrol Jan. 21, a vehicle was stopped for speeding and the officer smelled an odour of liquor emanating from the driver’s breath. The driver received a 24- hr suspension. His driver’s licence was seized and he received a violation ticket for speeding.Break and enter on Newport
The Oak Bay Police received a report of a residential break and enter in the 400 block of Newport Avenue on Jan. 21. The suspect pried the rear door and entered the unoccupied residence. The homeowner noticed a number of drawers were open and items were strewn across the floor. The deadbolt was bent and the door frame was splintered. The investigation is ongoing.Car rummaged
The police attended the 3000 blk of Woodburn Avenue Jan. 18 for a theft from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in their driveway. The suspect rummaged through the vehicle and stole some loose change.Court for curfew violation
The Oak Bay Police Department attended to a residence on Jan. 17 where a male who was in company of a female was bound by a court imposed recognizance that had several conditions. One of the conditions was to not have any visitors at his residence during his curfew. He was arrested for Failing to Comply with the Recognizance and was held in-custody for morning court.
