Police briefs: impaired driver suspended, vehicle towed

Several youth arrested on numerous mischief occasions.

Impaired driver suspended

On July 10, Oak Bay police stopped a vehicle with a burnt out headlight on Cadboro Bay Road near Cotswold. The driver exhibited signs of impairment. A breathalyzer test was done and a “FAIL” registered each time. The driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 90 days.

Bus sideswipes parked car

On July 14, police were called to Beach Drive near Somass Dr. where a northbound bus had sideswiped a parked luxury vehicle. The northbound bus driver was trying to avoid a southbound bus when the collision occurred. There was little damage to the bus. A violation ticket was issued to the northbound driver.

Gas siphoned from vehicle

On July 14, police attended to the parking lot of a bank on Oak Bay Avenue where a parked vehicle had gas siphoned from it. The owner had gone into the bank and upon their return to the vehicle noticed the gas door open. Approximately a half tank of gas was missing.

Tires slashed twice

Oak Bay police ask for the public’s help after tires were slashed on July 11 and again on July 14 on a vehicle parked on Wessex Close near Henderson Road. Contact the department at 250-592-2424.

Youth detained for mischief

Oak Bay Police located and detained a youth on July 16 believed to be associated to three other youth responsible for tagging on the Saanich side of Haultain St. The youth was turned over to Saanich Police and all four youths have now admitted their involvement. They will likely be diverted from the court system to alternative measures.

Drunk youth found in yard

On July 16, police were called to a residence on Carnarvon St. where the homeowners noticed a young male in their back yard staring at flowers. Upon arrival, police found an intoxicated youth. The youth was turned over to his parents.
