Approximately 700 vehicles rolled through police road checks in Mission on New Year’s Eve.
Police questioned drivers at several locations throughout the night, including the Mission Bridge, Cedar Valley Connector, Dewdney Trunk Road and Burma Road, near the Visitor Info Centre on the Lougheed Highway, and the Lougheed Highway near Wardrop Street.
“Most people had designated drivers,” said Mission RCMP Sgt. Shaun Wright. “We were pleased about that.”
Police only issued four 90-day driving suspensions for people who blew more than the legal limit in a breathalyzer.
It was a quiet night until about 2 a.m. when numerous disturbances required police attention, said Wright.
Ten people were arrested that night, most for being drunk in public, the sergeant explained. Other reports were for a domestic assault and uttering threats.
