Sometimes, an RCMP officer and his dog can be in the right place at just the right time.
Which is bad news for a break-and-enter suspect.
A Vernon member of the police dog unit and his canine were in their unmarked vehicle in the 3300 block of 32nd Avenue writing up another file at 3:35 a.m. Sunday when the officer heard a window break.
“The officer got out with his police dog and found a broken window in a business,” said Vernon RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
The officer checked the building but couldn’t see anybody, so he sent the dog in. The canine immediately went to the second floor, where a suspect was found at the far end of the building.
The police dog made contact with the suspect, a 22-year-old Kelowna man, who was arrested and taken into custody.
The suspect is expect to appear in Vernon Provincial Court at a later date to face a break-and-enter charge.
