A fight that began inside a Vernon restaurant resulted in one man being arrested.
The report of a man and woman fighting at the Subway in the Fruit Union Plaza on 25th Avenue was phoned into RCMP at 9:15 p.m. Sunday.
A 54-year-old male suspect from Vernon allegedly broke a window at the restaurant on his way out of the facility.
“While police were conducting their investigation, they spoke to witnesses who stated the suspect had allegedly stolen a bottle of vodka from a nearby liquor store and attempted to sell it,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
“One of the people he tried to sell it to grabbed the bottle and took off running.”
The second person – the woman, said Molendyk – ran to the Subway where the suspect caught up with her.
“There he then allegedly kicked the ‘wet floor’ sign at her and began yelling at her, asking who the man was that was with her,” said Molendyk.
“The suspect then left the Subway, kicking the door on the way out and breaking it.”
Police were told the male suspect was headed toward Polson Park, and that’s where officers found him.
The suspect was found attempting to hide by lying in Vernon Creek.
“He refused to come out when asked by our officers, he resisted arrest and had to be removed from the creek,” said Molendyk.
Through all of this, the stolen bottle of vodka was recovered by police and returned to the liquor store.
Charges of theft and mischief were expected to be laid against the man in Vernon Provincial Court Monday.
