A blaze that forced four people out of a Vernon shed may have been intentionally set.
Firefighters were called to the 3100 block of 41st Avenue after receiving a report of a garage on fire at about 4:30 a.m. Friday.
“It’s a suspicious fire that’s been turned over to the RCMP,” said Lawrie Skolrood, deputy chief, adding that the fire started on the exterior of the building.
“There was no means of ignition at that point. It suggests it could have been set.”
Four people, as well as a dog, were sleeping inside the shed when the fire broke out.
“A neighbour heard an explosion, went outside and banged on the door. Everyone got out OK,” said Skolrood.
The fate of the building is unknown.
“There is enough damage that it’s questionable whether they will fix it up or tear it down,” said Skolrood.
The Vernon RCMP detachment continues with its investigation.
