SURREY — Police are trying to identify suspects in a dozen pharmacy break-ins in Surrey, Langley and Abbotsford over the past few months.
Nine happened in Surrey and small, independent pharmacies were the targets. The break-ins happened between Nov. 2 and Jan. 18 and the thieves focused on safes containing narcotics.
“Surrey RCMP’s Property Crime Unit has been actively working in consultation with other police jurisdictions to identify the suspects involved,” Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann said. “Officers have a number of persons of interest, but are now appealing to the public for additional information.”
Police believe at least two thieves are involved and used a white Ford pickup truck, and older blue four-door sedan, a Jeep Cherokee and a silver SUV.
“The breakins usually occur in the early morning hours and have sometimes involved suspects breaking into neighbouring businesses in order to gain access to the pharmacies,” Schumann said.
“These businesses are reminded to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to safeguard their workplaces and property,” he added. “If you are out in the early morning hours and notice suspicious activity around these types of locations, please contact your local police department.”
