Police look for man seen carrying knife near North Vancouver school

RCMP say suspect allegedly approached a female student in an ‘aggressive manner’

RCMP is warning the public of a suspicious man that was seen allegedly carrying a knife near a North Vancouver elementary school Tuesday.

Around 3:35 p.m. on May 28, North Vancouver RCMP were called to Westview Elementary for a weapons call after two people reported seeing a man carrying what was believed to be a knife near the school, police said in a news release Thursday. One of the callers also said the man had allegedly approached a female student in an ‘aggressive manner’ before leaving the area on foot.

Police say officers conducted extensive foot patrols in the neighbourhoods surrounding the school, but were unable to locate the man. The investigation is ongoing in order to identify the suspect.

The suspect is described as white, 25 to 30 years old, about six feet, with a slim build. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and dark jeans. Police say he may also be unhoused, and was last seen heading in the direction of Carson Graham Secondary.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 and quote file #24-10340.
