POLICE NEWS: Woman hit in crosswalk during busy time for pedestrians

Central Saanich police say snow, ice might have played a part in crash

A woman suffered minor injuries after being hit in a busy crosswalk on Wallace Drive Tuesday.

The pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Wallace and West Saanich road around 8:30 in the morning a time when the intersection is traditionally teeming with children and vehicles headed to nearby Brentwood elementary.

A driver turning from the southbound lane right onto Wallace, struck the woman. There was some snow and icy conditions, say Central Saanich police.

The lady who was hit suffered some minor leg injuries and was taken to Saanich Peninsula Hospital.

The driver was issued ticket.

Police discourage lawn derby

One neighbourhood is dealing with roughed-up lawn after an all too common occurrence on the Peninsula, say Central Saanich police. Last Friday morning (Jan. 13) residents in the 7000 block of Scohon Drive awoke to find someone had driven a vehicle over at least two front lawns overnight.

Thieves are out there, cold or not

A household in Central Saanich needed to change their codes this week after a thief rifled the car. The vehicle was unlocked and entered sometime overnight and discovered the morning of Jan. 12 in the 1000 block of Elstree Close. A garage door opener was taken from the unlocked vehicle.
