Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP want to say thanks to the residents of Kingfisher.
When flooding washed out Mabel Lake Road and the power and phone lines servicing people in the community, Insp. Jim McNamara expressed concerns for the safety of the people trapped behind the washout.
“He directed two officers to go in and set up a temporary office to be able to respond to any calls for service requiring police attention behind the slide area,” said Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
Two officers from the Vernon detachment were flown in by helicopter to the Kingfisher-Mabel Lake location to set up a temporary base.
The two police officers were provided the use of a vehicle from a local resident to patrol the roads behind the washout so they could respond to concerns from the residents trapped behind the landslide.
“Our officers did attend to two calls while they were set up in Mabel Lake,” said Molendyk.
“The RCMP would like to thank the residents of the area for their assistance and warm hospitality while they were there during this uncertain time of the community being cut off from power and an impassable road.”
