Police on the lookout during long weekend

Drinking and driving to be targeted

Police are warning Oceanside residents to make sure they have a designated driver before they hoist a glass to the Easter Bunny.

RCMP Corporal Richard van de Pol said while no extra patrols are contemplated for the long weekend, police will remain extra vigilant for impaired drivers.

“It’s a long weekend, so people tend to celebrate a little bit differently,” he said. “Just be aware that if you are going to be doing any drinking, have a responsible and sober person available to drive you home.”

Van de Pol said police are hoping other motorists will also keep their eyes peeled and report potential impaired drivers to police.

He also had one more message for area residents.

“Use some common sense and enjoy your long weekend.”
