Police release sketch of suspect in senior attack

Elderly woman defended herself against attempted sex assault; whacked man with her purse.

Mounties have released a sketch of the suspect who attempted to sexually assault an elderly woman in a North Surrey park on the weekend.

On Saturday, June 23 at about 8:15 p.m., police were called to a report of an attempted sexual assault at Fleetwood Park in the 15800-block of 80 Avenue.

The victim, a 74-year-old woman, was approached in the park by an unknown man who tried to assault her.

She beat the man with her purse, causing him to flee eastbound on 80 Avenue on a BMX bike.

He is described as a Caucasian male in his mid-20s, approximately 6′ tall with a buzz cut, wearing a grey and red Echo hoodie and blue jeans.

Police believe this to be an isolated incident, however, anyone with further information who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
