Broken crossing
March 31 at 10:50 am police received a report that the wooden crossing gate at CP Rail’s east crossing was broken off. CP police were informed and investigated. It was determined that it had been an accident and no charges were laid.
Shed ownership
March 31 at 1:20 pm police received a complaint from a woman in Lillooet who reported that she had just heard from her tenant on the Bonaparte Reserve who advised that a man told them he would be taking the shed on the property. Police attended and spoke to the 63 year old male resident. He said he had no intention of removing the shed without speaking to the Band office about it first.
Batteries stolen
March 31 at 10 pm police received a report that two males had entered a business property and removed unknown items after first circling the Ashcroft property in a blue truck with a canopy. An investigation determined that 10-20 batteries had been stolen, valued at $500 each. Two of the batteries were for motorized scooters. The matter is still under investigation.
Suspicious male
Apr. 1 at 11:15 pm a Cache Creek resident called to say she thought she had seen a suspect from an attempted kidnapping in Kamloops at the Shell station around 5 pm. The incident in Kamloops happened at 1:30 am the same day when the man tried to force a 20 year old woman who stopped to help him into his truck. Police are waiting to view surveillance video from the gas station before confirming his identity. He is described as a white male between 60 and 70 years of age, standing five-foot-eight and weighing about 190 pounds, with neatly kept white hair combed back and tucked behind his ears, and a “bushy” white beard down to his collarbone. He also had a “dark-coloured uni-brow,” and was wearing a grey sweater, black jeans and cowboy boots. His vehicle is described as a two-door 1992 Dodge Dakota pickup truck with Alberta license plates. The truck has a gold exterior and a blue and grey interior.
New speeder
Apr. 2 at 8 pm police stopped a vehicle for speeding on Hwy 97 by the Bonaparte Reserve. The 24 year old Prince George man was given a ticket for speeding, another for failing to display the N sign and he was served with a 60 day driving prohibition as ordered by ICBC.
Bites the dust
Apr. 4 at 4:30 pm police attended a single vehicle rollover on Hwy 99. The 19 year old Pemberton driver told police that she hit the soft shoulder in her father’s 2011 Ford Ranger and lost control. The vehicle was towed while she and her passenger, a 21 year old Pemberton woman, were given a ride to Cache Creek. The attending officer noticed the smell of fresh marijuana coming from one of their backpacks and seized a small amount of marijuana and drug-related paraphernalia.
Not fast enough
Apr. 5 at 4 pm police stopped a Pontiac G6 for speeding on Hwy 97 on the Bonaparte Reserve. The northbound car pulled out to pass two vehicles at the north end of the Reserve, reaching speeds of 150 kph by the time it pulled back into its own lane. The 27 year old Cochrane, Alta. man produced an Alberta drivers license at first. He was asked for a BC drivers license and when he did, was served with a four month driving prohibition as ordered by ICBC. He was also given a ticket for excessive speed and his vehicle was impounded.
Looking for a room
Apr. 6 at 12:30 pm police received a report of a suspicious male sitting outside the Service BC office in downtown Ashcroft. The 52 year old man advised police that he was attempting to obtain disability payments so that he could find a room in a motel. The recent emigrant from Vancouver was calm and co-operative when police spoke to him.
Zipping right along
Apr. 6 at 4:45 pm police stopped a speeding 2009 Dodge Calibre, travelling at 147 kph in a 100 kph zone on Hwy 97 near 59 Mile. The 58 year old Lillooet man was given a ticket for excessive speed and the car was impounded for seven days.
