Window broken
July 7 at 8 am at the highway junction in Cache Creek, a Kamloops’ driver noticed a young man throwing something at his travel trailer, smashing a large window in the trailer. The young male had dark hair and was wearing a blue shirt and shorts. He was last seen running towards Lordco. Anyone witnessing the incident or knowing who the young male was are asked to phone RCMP at 453-2216.
Hats off
July 8 Chevron staff reported that a shoplifter had stolen several ball caps worth $350 stacked by the front till. The incident was caught on surveillance camera and the local woman is known to police. The matter is still under investigation.
Open liquor
July 8 at 6 pm Traffic Services stopped a vehicle at a road check on Hwy 99 by Marble Canyon and found open liquor in the car with three occupants. The liquor was destroyed and the driver, a 52 year old Marble Canyon woman, was given a $230 ticket for having open liquor in a vehicle.
Might have
July 11 a Fort St. John resident reported that on June 16 he was in Cache Creek and accidentally backed into a white parked vehicle in a gas station parking lot. He left, thinking there was no damage done but closer inspection once he’d arrived home showed that there was some. He reasoned that if his vehicle was damaged, so may be the other vehicle, and so he reported it. So far no one else has reported a hit and run.
Rained on
July 11 at 11 pm police received a complaint of several intoxicated youths on Stage Rd. by the Jehovah Witness church, giving the finger to passing vehicles. Heavy rain began soon after the complaint was made and no youths were located in the area.
Young shoplifter
July 12 police were called to the OK Stop in Ashcroft after a 9 year old shoplifter had taken $3 worth of candy and left the store. The child was located and his parents advised. The candy was returned and no charges were laid.
Ditched
July 12 at 12:30 pm police attended a single vehicle accident on Hwy 99 after a 24 year old Marysville man lost control of his Ford Focus and ended up in the ditch. There were no injuries and only minor damage to the car. No charges were laid.
High price to pay
July 12 at 4:21 pm Traffic Services stopped a white Toyota pickup on Hwy 99 by the lime plant for travelling at 142 kph in the 80 kph zone. The 52 year old Kamloops man was given a $483 ticket for excessive speed and his pickup was impounded for seven days.
Roadside assault
July 12 at 4:30 pm police received several complaints of an assault taking place at the side of the road on Hwy 1 by McAbee Fossil Bed. Witnesses could not provide a consistent description of the vehicle or the couple involved, but reported that the male was hitting and yelling at the woman and dragged her back into the car. Both were described as 20-40 year old and native. The man was further described as heavyset and about 5’8”. The information was forwarded to Kamloops RCMP but the couple was not located. Anyone with information about the incident or the couple involved are asked to call RCMP at 453-2216.
Surprisingly sober
July 13 at 11 am police received a complaint of an impaired driver in a white van, weaving back and fourth in his lane on Hwy 1 south of the Ashcroft Manor. The vehicle was located, but the driver was sober and rested. The 56 year old Lower Mainland man was given a warning about his driving and sent on his way.
Bicycle found
July 13 an adult’s bicycle found abandoned near Quality Glass was turned into the Detachment. The bike’s owner can claim it there.
BMW claimed
July 13 police received several reports of an abandoned green BMW parked on Railway Ave. by the Safety Mart for several days. The owner was contacted and advised that she had been on a railway tour. The car is now gone, presumably back to Agassiz with its owner.
Startled deer
July 13 at 9 pm police responded to a complaint of a deer with a broken neck on Loon Lake Rd. The deer was deceased by the time police arrived. A resident advised that he had been walking along the road when he startled the deer, which ran blindly into a metal gate and suffered the fatal injury.
