Bench stolen

May 19 the Village of Ashcroft reported that the bench in front of the blue Haul Pack truck in Heritage Place Park had been stolen. The bolts holding it in place in a concrete pad had been removed. The time of the theft is not known.

Truck rolled

May 19 at 10:21 am – a 21 year old Clinton man reported that he’d rolled his truck on Hwy 99 about 15 km from Hwy 97. He swerved to miss a deer, hit the shoulder and lost control. He was uninjured and had already called for a tow truck to retrieve his vehicle.

ID cards missing

May 20 a Cawston couple phone police to report that the 29 year old man had left his wallet at a Cache Creek gas station the night before. The wallet was found by staff, but was missing all of the man’s identity cards. He was advised to cancel them immediately.

Thieves spotted

May 20 at 11:35 am police were advised of the third break, enter and theft in recent weeks at the Ashcroft Terminal on Evans Rd. This time the two suspects made off with $45,000 in copper wire, computers, tools and other electrical equipment. The Lytton RCMP Detachment was alerted that a black Dodge Ram pickup hauling an overloaded trailer, filled with what was described as the stolen items, was parked at the G’swep Gas on Hwy 12. Two men were trying to sell the items to passers by. The men are described as Caucasian with short, graying hair, about 5’8” tall, wearing work clothes and plaid shirts. They were last seen driving southbound with a green mid-90s Jeep Cherokee following. Two women were in the Cherokee, and the vehicle is thought to be connected with the two men. A license plate was obtained and the police have suspects. The matter is still under investigation.

Trailer stolen

May 20 at 7 pm a u-built flatbed trailer was reported stolen from ASC Autobody at the junction of Hwy 1 and Hwy 97C. The trailer had a green painted wooden deck, with much of the paint worn away. The matter is still under investigation.

Aggressive dog

May 22 at 3:42 pm a 20 year old Cache Creek man complained that he and a friend were roller blading on Collins Rd. in Cache Creek when a dog ran out from yard and began barking in a threatening manner, although it did not bite  him. Police attended and noted the dog was behaving aggressively towards them as well. The dog’s owner was advised to secure the dog on their property.

Slow down

May 23 at noon a Traffic Services member operating a radar on Hwy 1 in Cache Creek stopped a Volvo SUV travelling at 99 kph in the 50 kph zone. The SUV was impounded for seven days and the 32 year old man from Oregon received a ticket for excessive speed.

At 12:49 pm in the same area, the officer recorded a northbound red Harley Davidson travelling at 105 kph in the 50 kph zone. The motorcycle was impounded for seven days and the 62 year old Campbell River man was issued a ticket for excessive speed.

Equipment stolen

May 24 at 7:12 am police received a report of a utility trailer stolen from the Water Treatment Plant in the Cache Creek Community Park. The trailer was owned by Betts Electric and contained equipment, including flow meters, being used for the Village’s new water system upgrade, valued at about $30,000. A video surveillance camera showed the trailer being stolen on May 19 at 2:29 am and a suspect vehicle that was a dark gray Dodge pickup with a white canopy. The trailer was found empty in 100 Mile House.

The Village of Cache Creek said their contractor is assessing how the loss will affect their work, and it could be four to six weeks before the stolen equipment is replaced. However, they’ve said it won’t impact the completion date of July 15.

The matter is still under investigation. The police have suspects, but welcome any information from the public.

Buckle up

May 24 at 8:07 am police stopped a vehicle on Hwy 97 at Stage Rd. in Cache Creek because the driver wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. The officer noticed a strong smell of marijuana and arrested the driver and passenger. A small amount of marijuana and a grinder were seized. The driver, a 31 year old man from North Vancouver, was issued tickets for not wearing a seat belt and failure to produce a Drivers License.

Missed the cat

May 24 at 2:45 pm a 41 year old Cache Creek woman reported that she had run into a parked travel trailer on Valleyview Rd. after she swerved to miss a white cat on the road. There was minor damage to the trailer. Both vehicles were towed for repairs. No charges were laid.

Turf war

May 25 at 1:06 pm police intervened in a “campground” dispute on Evans Rd. at the boat launch across the road from the Ashcroft Terminal entrance. A 25 year old Ashcroft woman complained that an unknown male had stopped his camper on the road by their campsite and let his dog out to run. The dog urinated on their belongings and when she asked him to leave, he told her it was a public area and she couldn’t prevent access to the river. Police spoke to the woman and to the 63 year old Cache Creek man and told them to behave.
