Winter driving
Ashcroft RCMP responded to several weather-related accidents last week.
On Nov. 17 at 2:05 am a 21 year old Williams Lake man reported that he had lost control of his 2005 Chev Cobalt on Hwy 97 and had hit the ditch near the Bonaparte Reserve after hitting a patch of ice. A tow was arranged. No charges were laid.
Tickets for inadequate tires
Nov. 17 at 8:38 am police attended a two-vehicle collision on Hwy 1 near the Perry Ranch where two pickups collided and ended up in the ditch after a westbound Mazda driven by an 86 year old Walhachin man lost control on the icy highway, crossed the centre line and hit an eastbound Dodge driven by a 49 year old Cache Creek woman. There was extensive damage to both vehicles, but no injuries. However, both drivers were issued tickets for not having winter tires or chains on their trucks.
Couldn’t make it up the hill
Nov. 17 at 8:48 am police attended a single motor vehicle accident on Hwy 97 north of the Bonaparte Reserve when a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup lost control on an icy hill and rolled into the ditch. The 35 year old Kamloops driver was not injured. His vehicle was towed.
Police attended a second accident in the same place at 9:19 am when a 2009 Ford Ranger driven by a 64 year old Cache Creek man lost control and rolled once. The driver was a little shaken and was taken to Kamloops’ hospital as a precaution.
Just a little argument
Nov. 17 at 3:30 pm police received a complaint of threats uttered from a 30 year old Grande Prairie woman who said that her 40 year old Beaverlodge boyfriend threatened to smash up her car. When police arrived, the two were found speaking on friendly terms and said the call had resulted from a minor verbal argument. The male admitted making the threat but said he didn’t mean it. No charges were laid.
Lost control on the ice
Nov. 18 at 1:30 pm police attended a single vehicle accident on Hwy 1 just south of Ashcroft where a 1993 Asuna Sunrunner hit the ditch after the Chilliwack driver lost control on the icy highway. There were no injuries and the vehicle was towed.
The rolling, icy hills
Nov. 18 at 3:50 pm police received a report of a single vehicle accident on Hwy 1 near Spences Bridge where a 45 year old Saskatchewan driver lost control near Paulos’ Fruit Stand and hit the ditch. She was given a ride into Cache Creek by a passing Interior Roads driver.
Accident at the Chevron
Nov. 18 at 4:35 pm a 27 year old Grande Prairie woman reported a minor accident that occurred the day before in the Chevron parking lot in Cache Creek when a flat deck semi hit her parked pickup truck, causing damage to the back light and tailgate, causing about $2,000 damage. No charges were laid.
Missing person had a break down
Nov. 19 at 11:30 am a 37 year old Ashcroft woman reported that a 42 year old Maple Ridge friend had failed to arrive in Ashcroft at the time she had stated, and had not been seen or heard from in several hours. The missing person contacted her friends at 5:30 pm, stating that her car had broken down in Surrey and that she had lost her cell phone in the confusion.
Getting nowhere fast
Nov. 19 at 4:18 pm Traffic Services stopped a Ford Ranger on Hwy 1 in Cache Creek for travelling at 108 kph in a 70 kph zone. The 29 year old Ashcroft man was found to be prohibited from driving and so was charged with driving while prohibited and given a ticket for speeding. His vehicle was impounded for seven days and he was given a ride to the Star House Restaurant.
Loud and rude
Nov. 19 at 6:50 pm police responded to a report of a 42 year old man, loud and bothering women at the River Inn pub, but apparently he had not been drinking. The male had left before police arrived and did not return. There were no further complaints.
Shouldn’t be driving
Nov. 19 at 7 pm while conducting a road check in Lytton, Traffic Services stopped a GMC Sierra pickup. The driver, a 69 year old Lytton man, produced a Status card with picture but no Drivers License. He was found to be currently suspended and prohibited from driving. He was arrested and charged with driving while prohibited and driving while suspended, and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Drunk
Nov. 20 at 1:43 am Traffic Services stopped a Dodge pickup on Hwy 97 for driving too slowly. The vehicle was also suspiciously following a female who was walking along the shoulder. The 25 year old Cache Creek man was given a roadside screening test, which he Failed. He was given a 90 day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The woman initially denied knowing the male, but eventually admitted that he was her boyfriend. They were both given a safe ride to their homes.
Stealing recyclables
Nov. 21 at 3:50 pm a young male was seen entering a property on Collins Rd. in Cache Creek and helping himself to bags and cases of recyclable bottles. He was described as a young, white male of average build, about 5’6”. Anyone witnessing a similar theft of recyclable bottles is asked to phone the RCMP at 453-2216.
Impaired and excessive
Nov. 21 at 7 pm Traffic Services stopped a Toyota Tacoma travelling at 150 kph in the 100 kph zone on Hwy 1 near the Semlin Ranch. The 39 year old Barriere man smelled of liquor and could not produce a Drivers License. He Failed a roadside screening device. He was given a 90 day driving prohibition, a ticket for excessive speed and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. He was given a ride to the Husky in Cache Creek.
California dreaming
Nov. 22 at 7 am police were called to a single vehicle accident involving a B-train on Hwy 1, 14 km south of Cache Creek. The southbound truck lost control on an icy curve and ended up partially in the ditch. The 53 year old California driver was uninjured. The truck was towed out of the ditch and continued on its way.
Trucks collide
Nov. 22 at 2 pm police attended an accident involving several tractor trailer units on Hwy 1 by the Eagle Motorplex. The Coquihalla was closed at the time and four trucks were travelling in a line. The first truck slowed quickly to pull over, causing the truck behind it to brake suddenly. The third truck couldn’t stop in time and hit the second truck, causing extensive damage to her vehicle. The driver of the third truck, a 59 year old Delta woman, was issued a ticket for following too closely.
Icy road ends trip
Nov. 23 just before midnight, police attended a single vehicle accident on Hwy 97 about 22 km north of Cache Creek after a 2005 Ford pickup lost control around the Loon Lake turnoff and hit the ditch. BC Ambulance was on the scene when police arrived. A 29 year old Quesnel man was taken to the Ashcroft hospital with a sore shoulder and his truck was towed. Road conditions at the time were bad.
