Police Report

From the Ashcroft RCMP Detachment

Missing owner

May 13 a member of the public attended the Detachment to drop off

three backpacks that had been sitting by the CN tracks in North

Ashcroft for several days. Police searched the packs and found a tent,

candles, clothing and several bottles of prescription pills. A 52 year

old Ashcroft man has been identified as the owner but has not been

located.

Unfriendly spirits

May 13 at 9:50 pm ambulance attendents reported seeing a man sitting

on the side of Hwy 1 east of Cache Creek, possibly intoxicated. The 40

year old Williams Lake man was located. He was not intoxicated, but

possibly had other mental health issues as he stated that he would not

return to Cache Creek because of “spirits”. He was left alone to

continue on his way.

AWOL for funeral

May 16 at 10:15 am the Detachment was contacted by Lytton RCMP who

were looking for a 16 year old Lytton male who was missing from his

foster home. He was last seen at Ashcroft Secondary School. Police

attended the school and spoke to staff and friends. They were told the

boy went to Alkali Lake with an ex-girlfriend and her father to attend

her grandmother’s funeral. Williams Lake RCMP were able to confirm

that the boy was at Alkali Lake.

Alarming

May 16 at 8:10 pm police responded to an alarm at the Pentecostal

Church. The alarm was heard by golfers at Semlin Valley across the

highway, who called police. One man advised that he saw three youths

running from the church after the alarm went off, but they were not

located. The church was secure and no entry had been gained. Pastor

Bruce Greenwood was contacted and he advised that they’d had a youth

group in the church until 8 pm, and some of the members may

accidentally have been still inside when the alarms were set.

In the rough

May 17 at 6:20 pm police were asked to remove an intoxicated golfer

from Semlin Valley, who was bothering other golfers and refused to

leave. The 45 year old Kamloops man, who was also a club member, was

escorted from the property after he’d retrieved his golf shoes from

the clubhouse. As this was repeat behaviour, he was asked to leave and

not come back.

AT B&E

May 18 workers at Ashcroft Terminal on Evans Rd. called to report that

their buildings had been broken into again overnight. A door had been

pried open and copper wire and tools were stolen to the value of $4-

$5,000. Witnesses reported two Caucasian males in their 60s driving an

early 1990s black Dodge Ram 2-door extended cab. Anyone with more

information about this is asked to phone the RCMP at 453-2216.

Just going home

May 18 at 3:45 pm police received a report that a woman might be

driving intoxicated as she was last seen at the Oasis beer and wine

store. Police located the vehicle and pulled her over. The 52 year old

Ashcroft woman showed no signs of intoxication and stated that she’d

just gotten off work.

Late night assault

May 19 at 1:55 am a 47 year old Ashcroft man phone police to report

that he had been assaulted by an unknown male acquaintance whom he had

just met earlier at the River Inn pub. The two were walking down Brink

St. when he was assaulted for no apparent reason around the 500 or 600

block. He thought he may have lost consciousness for a time. He also

lost his glasses. He made his way home a short distance away and

called for an ambulance who treated him for scrapes and an injured

right shoulder. The suspect is described as Caucasian, 5’10” with

short dark hair and talked about his Scottish/Irish ancestry. If

anyone has information on the incident or the suspect, they are asked

to phone police at 453-2216.
