Too good to leave

Sept. 2 at 3 pm police were called to the hospital to assist staff with a 78 year old man who refused to leave. The man, of no fixed address, had been treated earlier for a swollen foot and given food to eat, but refused to leave when the hospital closed. Instead, the man began walking down the hallways and making rude gestures at staff. He left without further incident when police arrived.

Road beer

Sept. 2 at 3:50 pm police received a complaint about people drinking beer in a northbound Ford pickup on Hwy 1 near Spences Bridge. The vehicle was located and open beer was found inside it. The driver, a 30 year old Aldergrove man, was sober but his 29 year old female passenger admitted to drinking the beer. Both were given tickets for having open liquor in a vehicle.

Excessive speed

Sept. 2 at 7:10 pm Traffic Services stopped a GMC SUV on Hwy 1 by Jackass Mountain as it sped along at 139 kph in the 90 kph zone. The driver, a 27 year old Surrey woman, was issued a ticket for excessive speed and her 2004 GMC Envoy was impounded for seven days.

At 7:30 pm in the same area, Traffic Services stopped a Ford F150 pickup travelling at 139 kph in the 90 kph zone. A 26 year old Abbotsford man was given a ticket for excessive speed and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Could be deadly

Sept. 2 at 7:51 pm police received a report of a helicopter dropping suspicious white liquid in the YD Ranch area and then flying away. A short investigation by police found that an active fire was burning in the same area and that the report was likely part of the fire suppression effort.

Find a room

Sept. 2 at 9:55 pm Traffic Services stopped a pickup at a checkstop in Lytton on Main St. at Hwy 12. The driver showed signs of intoxication and an odour of burnt marijuana was detected in the vehicle. A 32 year old Lytton man was given a 24 hour driving suspension for impairment by drugs and the vehicle was released to a sober driver.

At 10:08 pm at the same checkstop, officers detected the smell of beer in a Chevrolet Optra. The driver, a 21 year old Whitehorse man, was sober, but his passenger was not. The 24 year old Lethbridge man had a can of beer in his sweatshirt, and there was another open can leaking on the floor of the car. Both driver and passenger received tickets for having open liquor in a vehicle.

Sister spat

Sept. 3 at 2:45 am police were called to a residence in Cache Creek where two intoxicated sisters were fighting. Police attended and observed no injuries on the 20 and 22 year old women. One of the sisters was given a ride back to her own residence in the Cache Creek area and no charges were laid.

Speedy vacation

Sept. 3 at 10:30 am police conducting radar on Hwy 1 in Cache Creek observed a rented Hyundi Elantra travelling at 99 kph in the 50 kph zone. The 61 year old Israeli driver was given a ticket for excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Third time caught

Sept. 3 at 5:27 pm Traffic Services stopped a Suzuki motorcycle at a checkstop on Hwy 1 at Jackass Mountain after watching it travel at 138 kph in the 90 kph zone and pass on a double solid line. The 36 year old Maple Ridge driver was given tickets for excessive speed and crossing a double solid line, and his bike was impounded for seven days. It was the man’s third speeding violation in two days in the same area. The first two tickets were for speeding and did not result in an impound.

Risky driving

Sept. 3 at 9 pm Traffic Services stopped a car at roadcheck on Hwy 12 in Lytton and noticed a strong odour of marijuana inside, along with smoking paraphernalia and three grams of marijuana. The drugs, bud buster and pipe were seized, no charges were laid against the 22 year old Lytton man.

At 10:07 pm in the same place, officers stopped a transport van and questioned the driver, who admitted that he had no driver’s license. The vehicle was also uninsured. The 22 year old Hope man was issued a 30 day driving prohibition, given tickets for driving without a license and without insurance, and the truck was impounded.

Clinton speedway

Sept. 4 at 4 pm Traffic Services conducting radar observed a speeding car travelling at 149 kph in the 100 kph zone on Hwy 97 at Bullock Lake Rd. in Clinton. The 45 year old Maple Ridge man was given a ticket for excessive speed and his Ford Focus was impounded for seven days.

At 4:30 pm in the same area, officers stopped a southbound 2010 black Honda Civic driving at 160 kph in the 100 kph zone. The driver, a 17 year old Quesnel man, was given a ticket for excessive speed and his vehicle was impounded for seven days.

At 7:04 pm police observed a northbound white Ford pickup on Hwy 97 near 59 Mile passing at 147 kph in a 100 kph zone. The 20 year old Granisle woman was given a ticket for excessive speed and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Hurrying home

Sept. 5 at 4:53 pm Traffic Services stopped a northbound car on Hwy 1 near Jackass Mountain for travelling at 137 kph in the 90 kph zone. The 48 year old Prince George man was given a ticket for excessive speed and his Saturn was impounded for seven days.

Hit over the head

Sept. 6 at 1:40 am police were called to an Ashcroft residence by a private security company where a 49 year old man reported that someone had hit him over the head and taken the $500 in his wallet that he was going to use to pay his property taxes. He was unable to provide details of what happened or explain how someone had entered his alarm-secured house. He said he awoke to find his back door ajar and his empty wallet on the floor. He was uninjured. The matter is still under investigation.

Super B swarming

Sept. 6 at 5:29 am a 45 year old Cache Creek man reported that he was northbound in his transport truck on Hwy 1 about 20 km south of Cache Creek when an empty super-B started tailgating him. He said he touched his brakes to make them back off. There was an immediate conversation between the driver of the tailgating truck and other empty super-Bs travelling with him, and then the super-Bs started moving around him to block him in.  He called the RCMP when he got to Cache Creek, but the subjects of the complaint were gone by then and no license plate numbers were obtained.

Knife not a threat

Sept. 6 at 11:30 am police were told there was a 21 year old man running around his residence in Ashcroft with a knife. Police attended and found the man and his mother arguing over money. A blunt knife was located which the man  had used to stab a door and punch holes in a wall. There was no threat to himself or others and he was urged to seek anger counselling. He agreed to and left the residence to cool down.

Clipping along

Sept. 7 at 12:11 pm Traffic Services stopped an eastbound BMW Z3 on Hwy 97C near Merritt after clocking its speed at 160 kph in a 100 kph zone. The 60 year old Westbank man was given a ticket for excessive speed and his car was impounded for seven days.

Wallet tours BC

Sept. 7 at 10:30 am a 35 year old Cache Creek woman attended the Detachment to turn in the wallet of a 63 year old Alberta man. The wallet had been found in Port Kells the previous day by a local truck driver who was dropping off a load there before returning home. The owner was located in Vernon and confirmed that he had lost his wallet. It was mailed back to him.

Insomnia and beer

Sept. 7 at 3:50 pm Traffic Services stopped a minivan at a roadcheck on Hwy 8 in Spences Bridge. Officers detected a strong odour of liquor. The driver, a 53 year old Vernon man, said he was tired and had drank a beer in Hells Gate. He blew a Warn on a roadside sobriety device and was given a three day driving prohibition. Th Dodge Caravan was released to a sober driver.
