There were several 911 calls made to police last week regarding threats and an assault.
On December 16 at 7:20 p.m. the Nelson Police Department received multiple calls about a disturbance at the Youth Centre. Members attended and found that a young man and older woman went into the centre and tried to entice another youth out to fight.
Alert staff took the youth into the offices and called 911. One assailant was arrested and charged for uttering threats and causing a disturbance. The adult female is being sought by the Nelson Police to face similar charges. Police say the incident was apparently the results of a small debt.
The next day, December 17, at 11 p.m. a man was leaving work in the 700 block of Nelson Avenue. He was approached by an obviously intoxicated male who was shouting at him. The victim tried to ignore him and go on his way but the male continued to approach, so he called 911.
The intoxicated 35-year-old local male punched the victim multiple times in the head while on the phone with police. Nelson Police members arrived and took the male into custody.
Police say his bizarre behaviour clearly indicated he was under the influence of alcohol and most likely street drugs. The male was held until sober and charged with assault. He will appear in court in Nelson in March to answer to those charges.
He will be bound by numerous conditions until that time.
