New driver, bad driver
June 28 at 11:45 pm Traffic Service officers stopped a southbound 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck on Hwy 1 by Venables Valley Rd. that was travelling at 157 kph in the 100 kph zone.
The 21 year old man from Merritt showed signs of intoxication and was taken back to the Detachment for a Breathalyzer test. He provided two samples of 160 and 160.
In addition to charges of impaired driving and driving with blood alcohol exceeding .08, he will be charged with driving while prohibited and driving contrary to restrictions on his license as a New Driver not to consume any alcohol while driving.
The 21 year old already has three prohibitions and one suspension on his driving record. The pickup, which is registered to a 33 year old Merritt woman, was impounded for a minimum of 30 days.
Watch for deer
July 2 at 10:30 pm police were called to a single vehicle accident on Hwy 97C near Barnes Lake after a 1995 Mazda MX3 hit a deer. The 19 year old 108 Mile man was not injured. The car had to be towed.
Rented car damaged
July 2 at 10:50 pm police were called to another car-deer collision on Hwy 97 at Parke St. in Cache Creek. The impact broke the windshield of the 2011 Chevrolet Impala rented car. The 41 year old Winnipeg man was not injured.
Trees vandalized
July 3 at 11 am police received a report of several damaged trees on the Ashcroft Elementary School property that looked like cuts from a small saw. Four male youths were observed running from the area around 5 am. All were wearing baggy clothing and two were wearing touques. Anyone having any other information about the incident is asked to phone RCMP at 453-2216.
Missing Person
RCMP are looking for public assistance in locating Eric Pasco, 43, of Ashcroft. Pasco’s family hasn’t heard from him in three weeks and reported him as missing. His last known location was Vernon at the end of June. He is described as 5’11, 160 pounds, brown eyes and short black hair, slender build and lives at th Basque Ranch. He has a medical condition which requires medication that he did not take with him. Anyone knowing of his whereabouts is asked to phone the Ashcroft RCMP at 453-2216.
Collision in Cache Creek
July 4 at 8 pm police were called to a two vehicle collision on Hwy 97 at Parke St. in Cache Creek after an Alberta driver turned left onto the highway in front of a northbound panel van driven by a 56 year old woman from Lac La Hache. No one was injured and both vehicles were still driveable. The 29 year old Airdrie man was issued a ticket for failing to yield.
Beware of phone scams
Police are warning residents to be wary of strangers calling and asking for money to bail out a family member in another province. Police say the callers seem to have enough information about the people they are calling to make their story believable. Contrary to what these scammers advise, police recommend contacting their family members to check out the facts before giving out any money.
More deer accidents
July 6 at 10:15 pm police were called to a single vehicle collision on Hwy 1 by Juniper Beach between a 2008 Ford Taurus and a deer. The driver, a 32 year old Lytton woman, complained of pain in her arms, neck and chest and was transported to hospital for examination. Her two passengers were not injured.
Asleep at the wheel
July 8 at 1 pm police responded to a two vehicle collision on Hwy 1 near Back Valley Rd. in Cache Creek after a 26 year old Vernon woman fell asleep at the wheel and drove into the car in front of her. The 2005 Honda Civic hit a 2010 Hyundai, causing its driver to lose control. It went into the ditch and flipped onto its room. The 56 year old driver from North Vancouver was not injured. The Vernon woman was issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention. The Hyundai had to be towed.
