On Tuesday, Feb. 22, RCMP members seized over four ounces of marijuana from vehicle during a road check held on Highway 5 in Little Fort.

While checking the driver, the officer noted an odor of marijuana.  Initially the officer wanted to ensure the driver was not under the influence and could operate the vehicle safely. But the investigation quickly changed when an odor of green marijuana was detected.

The driver felt it best to cooperate with police and told them he had several joints (16) hidden in his lunch box. Despite his cooperation in turning over what he said was all he had, officers continued to search. Inside a large plastic tub in the back of the truck more marijuana was found. The bud was found in seven separate baggies, which were wrapped numerous times in plastic bags.

The male from Kamloops was heading to northern B.C. as part of his employment. He now faces charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act and will attend court in Clearwater later this spring.

The check, which was conducted by both Barriere RCMP and Central Interior Traffic Services, ran for several hours during the afternoon.  In addition to the marijuana seizure several tickets were issued for Vehicle Act infractions including no seatbelts.

Mailbox locks

Last week police received two reports of damaged mailbox locks. The locks were located on boxes near Greer, Sunshine Valley and Blackpool. Police do not know if any mail was actually stolen. Police are not able to obtain information as to who belongs to the affected boxes.

Please monitor your mailbox and report any thefts that occur.  Also, if you cut the lock off because it’s frozen, please remove it.
