Musical garbage cans
Aug. 4 at 11:30 am police received a complaint that garbage cans had been taken from the Ashcroft Bakery and Wilderness Way office. Around noon the Village Office called to say that the cans had been recovered nearby. Apparently an employee at another business had taken them by mistake, thinking that his business had more cans than it actually did.
Stolen debit card
Aug. 6 at 12:30 pm police received a report of a wallet stolen from a Cache Creek residence the previous weekend, and a bank card used in a fraudulent transaction at the credit union in Ashcroft. The 26 year old Cache Creek man had written down his PIN and left it in the wallet with his card. The suspect made a false deposit at the bank machine and then withdrew $500. Police are questioning a Kamloops suspect and the matter is still under investigation. The public is reminded not to divulge their PINs or leave that information with their debit cards.
Missing his pants
Aug. 6 RCMP received a call from a Prince George man inquiring about a lost pair of jeans. He said he’d lost a pair of black Levi jeans with suspenders at the Red Hills Rest Area over the weekend. The jeans had a set of keys in one of the pockets and he wanted them back. Anyone finding the jeans and/or the keys are asked to contact the RCMP at 453-2216.
Moose vs motorcycle
Aug. 6 at 9:30 pm police responded to a single vehicle collision on Hwy 97C near the Woods Creek F.S.R. after a motorcycle hit a moose. The driver, a 63 year old Ashcroft man, was taken to the hospital with a possible broken arm. The moose was not located.
Campers collide
Aug. 7 at 10 am police responded to a two vehicle accident on Hwy 1 east of Cache Creek by the mushroom compost farm after a truck and camper hauling a car rear-ended a rented motorhome. The rented motorhome, driven by visitors from the Netherland, was slowing down to pull into the pullout to take some pictures when it was hit by the second vehicle driven by an 80 year old Kamloops man. There was minor damage to both vehicles, and both were able to drive away.
Sam the dog’s road trip
Aug. 7 at 10:30 am police received a call from a Kamloops-based truck driver who said he had found a loose dog near the Chevron in Cache Creek the night before. He phoned the number on the tag, but the phone was out of service. He didn’t want to leave the dog, which was wandering into traffic, so he took him to Fort St. John with him. He advised that he would be coming back through Cache Creek the following day with the dog. With the help of Cache Creek’s animal bylaw officer, he located the dog’s owner and a happy reunion was held in the Chevron parking lot.
Assistance rendered
Aug. 8 police were asked to check on the wellbeing of a 72 year old Ashcroft woman who had not been heard from in several days. Police attended her residence but there was no response when they knocked at the door. The officer entered the residence and found the woman lying on her bed, conscious but unable to move. She was transported to Ashcroft hospital by ambulance and her present condition is not known.
Casual lifestyle
Aug. 8 at 7 pm Traffic Services was conducting a road check on the North Bonaparte R. and a Forestry Service Rd. at 70 Mile when it stopped a 1997 gray GMC pickup. On open beer can was observed in the cupholder and the driver’s breath smelled of liquor. He was given a roadside sobriety test and blew a Warn. He was found to be unlicensed and a Vehicle Impound Candidate as well. The 41 year old 70 Mile man was charged with driving while prohibited and given a three-day driving suspension. His father’s pickup truck was impounded for seven days.
Sibling spat
Aug. 8 at 10 pm police were asked for assistance by a 55 year old Ashcroft man who said his older sister was drunk and being mean to him. The 57 year old woman was located. As the pair lived together, she agreed to stay elsewhere for the night until tempers cooled.
Lost life jackets
Aug. 10 at 8 pm police received a call from a Lillooet man saying that he had lost a black bag containing four life jackets from off his boat as he drove along Hwy 97C near Hwy 1. Anyone finding the bag and contents are asked to phone RCMP at 453-2216.
