Langley RCMP are trying to track down the owner of a large number of coins that were found in a vehicle being driven by a 30-year-old Abbotsford man.

Langley RCMP officers working in the Aldergrove area on Aug. 21 pulled over a motorist whom they recognized as someone prohibited from driving. Police checks on the Ford Econoline van indicated the licence plates should be on an Oldsmobile Cutlass that was not registered.

The officers discovered in the van a backpack with numerous coins from various countries. Neither the driver nor the passenger in the van claimed ownership of the backpack, and police said they cannot recommend charges for possession of stolen property.

However, they would like to find the owner of the coins. Some of the coins are distinctive and are likely part of a collection, police said.

The owner of the coins, or anyone who can identify that person, is asked to call the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
