For the second time in as many weeks, the same Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP police dog team helped retrieve a person missing in the local woods.

Police received a call Tuesday shortly after 8 a.m. from an Armstrong woman who reported her daughter had walked away from their home into some nearby woods in the area of Otter Lake Road and Fraser Road.

“The mother had concerns for her daughter’s safety as she does suffer from some mental health issues,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.

“The attending officer was advised that the missing daughter had previously attempted to harm herself, that is why the concern.”

A police service dog unit was called out and after a brief search was able to locate the woman hiding in bushes along the train tracks.

The young woman was returned back home and then transported to Vernon Jubilee Hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.

“The quick action of the team likely went a long way in getting this person treatment in the proper time period,” said Molendyk

This dog team successfully tracked and rescued a missing man in Spallumcheen late in August.
