POLLS are open until 8 pm today as voters choose representatives for three local governing bodies.
Terrace, Thornhill and rural residents cast their ballots for municipal, regional district and school board representatives.
Terrace voters will choose a mayor and six city councillors as well as two Coast Mountains school trustees.
Voters in Thornhill will choose one representative to sit on the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine board.
Voters in the rural area taking in north of Terrace, Lakelse Lake and points south will also choose one regional district candidate.
Thornhill and rural voters will also choose one person to sit on the Coast Mountains school district board.
In Terrace voting is taking place upstairs in the Terrace sportsplex until 8 p.m.
In Thornhill voting takes place in the foyer of Thornhill Junior Secondary School until 8 p.m.
Chief election officer Cathy Jackson said people should be prepared on the day with two pieces of identification, one of which will need to have a signature.
If a person is not on the voting list they can sign up at the polls before they vote, with two pieces of identification, one each to prove residency and identity.
To be eligible to vote a person must be a resident of the appropriate area for 30 days, and a resident of B.C. for six months.
For Lakelse Lake residents voting takes place at Mount Layton Hotsprings and for those in the Gitaus area, at the Kitselas Health and Administration building’s education room.
Polls for the regional district will also be open in Gitanyow at the Gitanyow independence school, in Kitwanga at the Kitwanga Valley Community Hall and in Rosswood at the Rosswood community hall.
A person can also vote if they have been a property holder in the applicable area for more than 30 days and fill out a non-resident property elector form at the time of voting.
Non-residential voters owning property and wanting to vote in the elections may be asked to provide proof that they are entitled to register and vote in relation to their property.
