Vanderhoof district council’s pool committee reported that it will expand to a regional focus. The society has been set up to forward the mandate of the pool committee, Councillor Steven Little told mayor and council at the district meeting last Wednesday.
Little added that they’re also working on a schedule right now and a business plan to look at funding options as well as putting on some open houses to consult with the public on these matters.
He explained to the Omineca Express that they asked council for a budget to take care of the expenses involved in just getting these foundations for the plan set up, but it has yet to be approved.
The idea for a pool started about three years ago and has slowly progressed to this point, but still lots of work needs to be done, especially around financing and planning, he explained.
“It’s now a regional focus and not just an issue for the Vanderhoof committee,” Little clarified.
Now that there’s a society “they will manage the pool after it’s constructed,” he said, “and a society can (also) look for funding through other means.”
The committee has already sought all the funding options it is permitted to under the district government mandate as its constitution allows.
The Bulkley Valley-Nechako regional district will be also be looking at the plans before the referendum, the chair of the pool committee said.
