On December 16, Barriere RCMP attended a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 5 near McLure.    The driver was northbound, lost traction and control of his pickup and went off road left colliding with the ditch and highway signs.  The vehicle then rolled over coming to rest on the shoulder of the highway (pictured).  The driver was transported to hospital in Kamloops with minor injuries.

The roadway was mostly clear with some slippery sections due to the constant changes in road and air temperature mixed with the new snow.  The cause of the crash was likely driver error, not driving to the conditions of the road.

Barriere RCMP have responded to numerous motor vehicle collisions in the area over the last two weeks which are mostly driver error, inexperienced driver for the road conditions, and in one particular case inadequate tires for the conditions.   The highways maintenance crews have been doing an excellent job in maintaining the roads in our area given the extremely challenging and changing conditions.  We have seen blowing snow, freezing rain, rain followed by freezing temperatures, and people still insist on driving like the road is bare and dry.

The police want to remind all road users to drive safely, respect other road users, slow down in poor conditions, and drive with caution.
