Port Mann Bridge tolls going up August 15

METRO VANCOUVER — Port Mann Bridge tolls are set to rise on August 15.

For small vehicles – cars, pick-ups and SUVS – the toll will rise from $3 to $3.15

Rates will also be rising for medium-sized vehicles (cars with trailers, cube vans and motorhomes) from $6 to $6.30, large vehicles (commercial trucks, motobuses and large motor homes) from $9 to $9.45 and the toll for motorcycles will jump from $1.50 to $1.60.

Transportation Investment Corporation (TI Corp) CEO Irene Kerr said in a release the raised rates are needed to keep up with debt repayment and operational costs.

TI Corp says the new Port Mann Bridge has about 100,000 crossings a day and the company reports that year-to-date traffic is five per cent higher than in 2014.

Use of the Port Mann Bridge was down in 2014 after the toll was doubled following a one-year introductory rate in January 2014.

According to traffic figures, there were 34,300 fewer trips in 2014 than the roughly 1.26 million the year previous, following the full tolling rate being brought in.

But for the last seven consecutive months, the bridge has seen an increase in traffic over the same months in 2014.
