Possible bicycle thief spotted by witness

The latest report from the Columbia Valley RCMP detachment.

October 14

• Columbia Valley detachment members responded to a disturbance complaint in the 4000 block of Burns Avenue in Canal Flats. The disturbance involved two family members and resulted in an assault. One male was taken to the Invermere hospital for minor treatment to an injury to an ear. The investigation is continuing to determine if charges are warranted.

October 15

• Columbia Valley detachment attended to a residence on the Shuswap Band land in regards to a disturbance. On attendance, a 27 year-old male from Cranbrook was refusing to leave the residence. The intoxicated male proceeded to assault another person in the house. The male was arrested and lodged in cells. The victim of the minor assault did not wish to press charges.

• Columbia Valley detachment members responded to a disturbance complaint in the early hours in front of the Best Western. Two males were arguing. One male, a 31 year-old from Spruce Grove Alberta, would not listen to police commands. The male was intoxicated and was advised he was under arrest for causing a disturbance by being drunk in a public place. He was lodged in cells.

• Columbia Valley members responded to a complaint of a male passed out in a residence in the 1600 block of 10th Avenue. A friend was present at the time of police arriving. The friend had located a hand gun in the house and when he handled the gun it discharged. No one was harmed. Police seized the gun, and the intoxicated male was transported to Invermere Hospital and kept over night for observations. The 73-year old male and owner of the gun will be charged with unsafe storage of a gun.

• Columbia Valley detachment received a complaint of mischief when a vehicle parked on the Shuswap Band land had its windshield smashed.

• A male was observed driving a bike in town that was recognized as being previously stolen. A witness had a good look at the bike and was convinced of who the owner was. When questioned on this, the male operating the bike rode away. Later the male was observed in town and pointed out to police. Police called out to the male, who ran on the police. The officer was able to catch up to the male and was questioned about the bike.

The 48 year-old male from Invermere stated he bought the bike and handed it over to the police. The investigation is continuing.

October 16

• A young female was found intoxicated in the 200 block of Black Forest Trail. The young person was escorted back to her parents to ensure her safety.

• Police are investigating a report of a break and enter at Mister Tire. Money was stolen from a cash box. Anyone with information is asked to contact the detachment.
