Possible child abduction in Kelowna reported

Police respond to eye witness report from a youth near the Dorothea Walker Elementary School in the Mission.

The Kelowna RCMP have gone public regarding a report of a child abduction in the area of Dorothea Walker Elementary School this afternoon.

Police say they received a complaint at about 2:30 p.m. when a child complainant reported the possible child abduction near the school in the area of Gordon Drive and Old Meadows Road in the Mission.

The young witness claimed to observe what looked like an unknown child being put in the trunk of an unknown vehicle.

At this time, Kelowna RCMP say they have not received any reports of any missing children and have deployed all available resources in response to the original cmplaint.

The principal of Dorothea Walker Elementary School has also sent a letter home to all parents regarding this unconfirmed incident as a precaution.

At this time the suspect is described as:

•    a Caucasian male;

•    taller;

•    with short brown or black hair;

•    wearing a brown coat and blue jeans;

The possible suspect vehicle is described as:

•    a dark grey sedan;

•    with a tinted back window;

•    and unknown licence plates.

The potential abducted child is described as:

•    male;

•    believed to be in Grade One (1) or Grade (2);

•    wearing a distinct black, red and blue back pack;
