There’s a steady flow of vehicles heading to the Greater Vernon landfill daily, but it’s a pretty rough ride.
As vehicles turn off of Highway 97 on to Birnie Road, they are faced with numerous, deep potholes and there’s similar conditions for motorists coming down Birnie to get back on to the highway.
“When I talk to people, the issue comes up,” said Bob Fleming, Regional District of North Okanagan chairperson and a frequent visitor to the landfill.
“I’ve been promised by the Ministry of Transportation that there will be action as soon as the asphalt plants are open, which is any day now.”
However, Fleming isn’t satisfied with the potholes just being patched and insists a proper road base must be installed.
“Four years in a row I’ve asked them to do the apron. They know it needs to be done,” he said.
“We know it and they know it, and they need to dedicate the funds.”
