Power outage scheduled for Brentwood Bay tonight

B.C. Hydro doing upgrades on Brentwood Bay power system

B.C. Hydro will be doing some system upgrades in Brentwood Bay tonight and as a result, the power will be shut off between midnight and 5 a.m. in some areas.

“We will be making electrical system improvements in Brentwood Bay on Jan. 31 from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m.,” said a B.C. Hydro press release.

“To ensure the safety of our work crews, it will be necessary to interrupt electrical service for approximately five hours.”

B.C. Hydro suggests residents turn off all lights, electric heaters and major appliances and unplug all electronics to prevent them from being damaged. They also asked that for the first hour after the power comes back on that residents only plug in or turn on those electronics and appliances that are needed.

“This will help ensure the electrical system does not get overloaded,” the release said.

The power outage may affect residential and business alarms, medical equipment, phones, traffic control lights, electric alarm clocks and other electronic devices and appliances, added Central Saanich Police Corporal Wes Penny, “so please ensure that alternate arrangements are made for any necessary or urgent needs.”

The power interruption will not affect emergency service delivery continued Penny, assuring that emergency services will continue to respond to any public health or safety issues that are reported.
