Ladysmith Mayor Rob Hutchins was one of 75 British Columbians recognized by B.C. Premier Christy Clark at a ceremony hosted at the Fairmont Empress Hotel in Victoria Tuesday, Feb. 26.
Premier Clark awarded Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medals (QE2 medals) to Hutchins and his fellow recipients “in recognition of their service to their fellow citizens,” states a government press release.The awards ceremony was intended to celebrate the accomplishments of individuals in the fields of business, public service, law enforcement, education, sports and volunteerism.
Hutchins’ QE2 medal was presented on behalf of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities as an acknowledgement of his contributions to community service.
According to the press release, the “Diamond Jubilee Medal was created to mark the 2012 celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty’s accession to the throne.” The 60,000 recipients of QE2 medals “have made a significant contribution to a province, territory, region or community within Canada.”
