Premier Christy Clark revives gaming grants

The provincial government has announced another round of gaming grants in the province.

More than 2,000 non-profit community groups across British Columbia will benefit from the recent injection of $15 million in new grant funding from BCLC (British Columbia Lottery Corp.) casino and lottery proceeds.

In the South Cariboo, recipients of the recent funding influx are the Parent Advisory Councils (PAC) at nine area schools, which will share $8,605; the 100 Mile House Food Bank Society that will receive $10,250 and the Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre (CFEC), which will pocket $14,395.

CFEC executive director Lisa De Paoli says it is too soon to say what the latest funding will be used for.

“We’re very pleased to have this funding from gaming to support all these really key programs in our community.”

She notes the previous round of gaming funding received this year, which amounted to $57,580, has now been allocated: $44,650 for the Youth Zone; $6,000 each for the Community Kitchen and Dads & Tots; and $930 for the Parent-Child Mother Goose program.

Since it hasn’t received the full funding requested, De Paoli says the CFEC will also continue to seek other sources of funding.

Premier Christy Clark says her government is fulfilling its commitment to provide an immediate boost of $15 million to community gaming grants.
