Fast food chain hoping to open new location in 2022

Construction is underway in Vanderhoof on what will be a new McDonald’s restaurant.

Preparation work has commenced for the future site of the fast-food joint near Jim’s Your Independent Grocer on Ryley Avenue.

“I can confirm that we do have an interest in a new site in Vanderhoof,” said Ryma Boussoufa, McDonald’s corporate relations external communications manager.

“We are excited to welcome and serve our guests in the community in the first half of 2022.”

The District of Vanderhoof issued a $1.5-million construction permit earlier this year.

Mayor Gerry Thiessen called the commercial development exciting news.

“It’s a welcome addition to the community,” he said.

“I’m thrilled they [McDonald’s] want to invest in Vanderhoof.”

No further details are currently available.

The nearest McDonald’s restaurant for individuals craving popular items such as a Big Mac or McFlurry is in Prince George or Smithers.
