Constable Derek Rondeau is the 2016 recipient of the Prince George Crime Stoppers Officer of the Year Award.

Rondeau is currently a member of the General Duty Section in the RCMP Detachment in Prince George since transferring from the Fort St. James Detachment in the fall of 2016.

Prior to this, Rondeau was with the Fort St. John RCMP for a number of years.

“Cst. Rondeau was a hardworking, engaged member of our Detachment and we’re so proud of him. He integrated into our community and was well known and well liked, two traits of a good officer,” said Sgt. Poppy Hallam, from the RCMP in Fort St. James.

According to the Prince George Crime Stopper Society, Rondeau was awarded Officer of the Year because of his dedication and experience that led to dozens of charges as a result of following up on Crime Stopper information.

Crime Stoppers is a program that is separate from the emergency telephone number system or other standard methods of contacting police. It allows members of the community to provide anonymous information about criminal activity.

The British Columbia Crime Stoppers Society is the umbrella organization for individual community-based Crime Stoppers programs in the province.

The society helps provide standards, communication, training, dispute resolution, legal support, insurance and other similar items that ensure the security and success of community programs.

The 2016 Prince George Crime Stopper Watch of the Year was also awarded to “D” Watch, led by Staff Sgt. Carlos Tettolowski.

General duty officers are the uniform members who respond to calls for service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Prince George General Duty Section is divided into four equal “Watches” including, A, B, C and D.

This year marks the fifth annual presentation of these awards.
