A tent perched atop Monterey Middle School last week was just principal Ken Andrews fulfilling a promise to his students.
Athletic leadership students Sela Piercy, Jenna Froese, Sonny Miller and Sebastian Brubaker outfitted Andrews for his campout last Wednesday.
“Our goal was to sell 415 books. If we did this, Mr. Andrews agreed to sleep on the school roof,” said Sebastian. “Our student body did such a great job that not only will Mr. Andrews be sleeping on the roof, but he will be doing so in a onesie.”
Andrews told the Monterey Athletic Leadership students if they sold a certain amount of coupon books, he’s sleep on the roof.
A grandparent came through with $1,000 to put the students well beyond expectations.
“The funds we raised through these coupon book sales will make it possible for us to purchase new sports equipment, equipment for extra curricular athletics, jerseys for our sports teams and earn special events like our fun day that add school spirit,” said Sela.
The students also announced the bonus $1,000 would be donated to Monterey’s parent advisory council for ongoing work on the school’s outdoor play space.
