Prolific offender nabbed in minivan

A 33-year old Kelowna man is facing a series of criminal charges after allegedly being found in possession of a stolen mini-van

A 33-year old Kelowna man who is known to police is facing a series of criminal charges after allegedly being found in possession of a stolen mini-van early Wednesday evening.

The Kelowna RCMP responded to a reported theft of a vehicle that had just been stolen from a business on the 2300 block of Enterprise Way, Oct. 14 at 9:16 a.m. The vehicle, a Dodge Caravan was witnessed being driven away from the property.

The West Kelowna RCMP then received a report from a concerned citizen Oct. 15 at 5:23 pm, regarding a vehicle occupied by a suspicious male inside their gated community on the 1500 block of Chardonnay Place.

“The suspect vehicle was spotted a short time later by a West Kelowna RCMP general duty officer and confirmed to be stolen. The Kelowna RCMP Street Enforcement Units quickly established surveillance on the stolen vehicle and positively identified and arrested the alleged suspect who was known to police,” said Const. Jesse O’Donaghey.

The alleged suspect, a 33 year-old Kelowna man, was taken into police custody after he had exited the stolen vehicle, minimizing the risk to both police and the public, in the 4000 block of Pritchard Road. Investigators located ammunition, but no firearms, during of the search of the suspect incidental to his arrest.

“It was the combined efforts of the Kelowna RCMP Street Enforcement Units and the West Kelowna RCMP General Duty Section who worked together to affect an arrest of the suspect without incident,” says Sgt. Alex Lynch.  “Being a Regional Detachment it provides us with the ability and flexibility to deploy much needed resources anywhere within the region to aggressively and effectively target our high priority prolific offenders.”

Stanley Charles Nickason has been charged with 1 count of Possession of Stolen Property Over $5,000, 2 counts of Possession of Ammunition Contrary to Order and 1 count of Driving While Disqualified. He has been remanded into custody and is expected to re-appear in Court on October 23, 2014.
