A proposed new eight-lot subdivision on Dewdney Trunk Road received some negative feedback from the public on Monday night.
Mission council hosted a public hearing regarding a zoning change request from Slade Dyer and Associates Inc. for the property located at 30782 Dewdney Trunk Rd.
The zoning application would make it possible to make the property into an eight-lot bare-land strata subdivision that could accommodate a single-family dwelling with a secondary dwelling unit on each lot.
The subject property is 14.6 acres in size and is located in the Stave Falls neighbourhood between Pilgrim and Bell streets.
Some residents had concerns, ranging from the environmental impact to added traffic on the already-busy road.
One issue that was brought up several times was the drain on the water supply.
“We don’t have a lot of water in the water table around there and, I figure, 16 houses draining water from the water table, I think next summer or the summer after – whenever the project finishes – I’ll be running out of water. I’m concerned. What can I do at that point?” asked a neighbouring resident.
The public was told a hydrologist report would be required, confirming adequate water would be available, once council gave the zoning request third reading. However, council also noted that the hydrologist report would come back to council before a decision on final approval is made.
