Province dictating district duties

RDNO has been told by the B.C. Land Title and Survey Authority to no longer provide land title documents

There could be a reduction in customer service but it’s not the fault of the Regional District of North Okanagan.

RDNO has been told by the B.C. Land Title and Survey Authority to no longer provide land title documents, such as maps, to residents of the rural areas.

“This is not good business,” said Eugene Foisy, Cherryville director.

“Our front counter staff will get hollered at every time the public is told they can’t get the information and must go to Kamloops (provincial office).”

RDNO staff have previously given land title documents to residents because some rural areas do not have Internet service and accessing the documents is challenging.

Looking for support

A local politician has his sights set on provincial responsibilities.

Kevin Acton, Regional District of North Okanagan director and Lumby mayor, has been nominated to be the small communities representative at the Union of B.C. Municipalities.

“I’m hoping to have support from the regional district,” said Acton.

The election for the UBCM position will be in September.

Politicians get a holiday

There will be fewer chances for Regional District of North Okanagan directors to get together during the summer.

The regular board meetings for July 2 and Aug. 6 have been cancelled.

“We have light agendas for the first meetings in July and August,” said David Sewell, chief financial officer.

Regular board meetings will be held July 16 and Aug. 20.
