The provincial government is working with communities to provide targeted supports and create jobs for low-income B.C. families.

Among the programs created is the B.C. Jobs Plan, which includes skills training and education for low-income people.

“Child poverty is a difficult issue that affects all of us and we all have a part to play in finding solutions,” said Mary McNeil, B.C.’s children and family development minister.

The government and Union of B.C. Municipalities’ Healthy Communities Committee are working together to develop local poverty-reduction strategies.

Five communities will be selected in early 2012 to pilot strategies that target the needs of families living in poverty.
