Surrey RCMP have issued an advisory to the public to ensure their doors and windows are secure, after a woman awoke early Sunday to find a stranger asleep beside her.
“As this investigation is moving forward, the Surrey RCMP want the public to be aware that sexual assault is being considered as a potential motivator in this incident,” a news release issued Monday evening states.
According to the release – which was first distributed late Monday afternoon, then updated four hours later to advise of the possible motive – a man entered a home near 64 Avenue and 121 Street between 4:20 and 7:20 a.m. Dec. 20, and fell asleep.
“When the complainant woke up, the male was asleep beside her,” the release states.
The stranger – described as a six-foot-tall aboriginal man, approximately 22 years old, with a slim build – left immediately when woken, it states.
He was wearing a black sweater and a black and grey baseball cap.
Investigators have canvassed the neighbourhood and are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen someone in the area behaving suspiciously.
