A chance for the public to provide input on the Town of Lake Cowichan’s Official Community Plan is fast approaching.
Two meetings have been scheduled.
The first is on Saturday, March 12, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and the second will be Thursday, March 17, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Both meetings will be at the Town of Lake Cowichan’s Municipal Hall.
“It’s a drop in,” Advisory Planning Commission chair Chris Rolls said. “Come in and have a look. Give your opinions.”
The new draft of the town’s Official Community Plan includes several new sections, including greenhouse gas emission targets, proposed density limit changes, and the idea of animal husbandry within town limits.
“Overall, where do you want to see the town go in the next 10 years or so,” Rolls said, of the Official Community Plan’s purpose.
An up-to-date draft of the Official Community Plan is currently available at the Town of Lake Cowichan’s Municipal Hall, the local library, and at local schools. It’s also available online, at www.town.lakecowicahn.bc.ca – just scroll down on the “News” header.
For those who don’t want to go through the 113 page document, highlights from the Official Community Plan will be on display during the public drop in sessions.
The Official Community Plan is a document put together by volunteer community members (the Advisory Planning Commission) and serves to provide the town’s elected officials with guidance as to what the community would like to see happen in the community.
The town’s Official Community plan is constantly being amended, though the last large-scale update happened in 1999.
On Thursday, March 24, the Advisory Planning Commission will meet to discuss the results of the public drop in sessions, and make amendments in accordance to the public’s suggestions.
