Public hearing on Hall St. building development Tuesday

Hearing on new development starts at 6:00 p.m. at city hall

The city will hold a public hearing tomorrow (Sept. 4) regarding the property at 205 Hall St. — currently the parking lot next to the pool at the Nelson and District Community Complex.

An Okanagan developer has purchased the property and intends to build a $10.25 million four-story building with commercial properties on the ground floor and 38 units of housing above.

In order to do this the property must be re-zoned from its present institutional status to core commercial. And the Official Community Plan must be changed to allow it.

Both of those changes require the city to hold a public hearing at which anyone who feels they will be directly affected by this can speak. The hearing will be at 6:00 p.m. at city hall in council chambers.

Or a submission can be made in writing by 4:00 p.m. tomorrow to development@nelson.ca or by hand to 101-310 Ward St.

At the public hearing, council members will not enter into debate or discussion with presenters but simply hear the submission. They will make a decision on the rezoning at the regular council meeting that starts at 7:00.
