It would appear there’s a graffiti tagger with a washroom fetish at work in White Rock.
Public restrooms in Centennial Park, under construction on East Beach and at the head of White Rock pier have all been tagged of late, director of engineering Rob Thompson said this week.
The most recent mess was left over the Easter long weekend, when at least one tagger took black spray paint to under-construction washrooms at the foot of Balsam Street and existing facilities behind the ball diamond in Centennial Park.
“He (or she)’s obviously got something about the inside of washrooms,” Thompson said Wednesday.
Judging by the tags, it is believed the same individual is responsible for the Balsam and Centennial Park damage, he said.
Graffiti in the pier-head washrooms has been a longer-term problem. While colourful murals inside the building have inhibited large-scale tagging, city workers discover pornographic illustrations added to the mouths of fish in the mural on an almost weekly basis, he said.
Thompson estimated it took one worker about five hours to paint over the tags at Centennial Park. While the cost of repairs is not huge, there are better things that the time and funds could be used for, he said.
“It’s just an irritant, where we then have to expend resources to clean it up.”
Images of the latest tags will be given to White Rock RCMP, he added.
