A busy agenda means Qualicum Beach town council will move their next regular meeting to the Civic Centre.
On Aug. 13, the council will set up the venue for a more interactive meeting with the community. It is expected to follow the regular format, but with seats closer, in more of a horseshoe pattern, around the council. This is being done to reflect some of the councillors’ wishes that they seem more approachable during their meetings.
Councillor Bill Luchtmeijer wanted any obstructions — such as podiums — eliminated, and “acres of land between council and the community” reduced.
“It’s not us and them,” he said.
Issues on tap that night include an update on the town’s firehall replacement plan, and presentation on local crime statistics from the RCMP, a trail proposal from the Chartwell Residents Association, second reading of the Village Neighbourhood Plan (which is due to go to a public hearing in September), a transportation plan update, as well as various bylaw considerations.
The town’s Aug. 13 meeting at the Civic Centre is set to start at 7 p.m.
