Exactly how much development takes place in the Town of Qualicum Beach?
Coun. Scott Harrison wants to know and have a discussion.
At council’s regular meeting Feb. 3, Harrison made a motion to direct staff to provide an annual summary of the town building permits during the last 10 years.
“I do think this is a good conversation to have in local government but I do want to make sure that we’re actually having a discussion based on the facts of how much is actually happening,” said Harrison. “So the idea here is to give everyone a reasonable time frame to judge.”

Harrison also suggested to include into the report a comparison with other communities of roughly similar size in central Vancouver Island.
“Then at least the conversation that can happen is based on the actual amount of activity that’s happening,” said Harrison. “If folks think we should be doing more or we should be doing less, at least we’re all starting from the same set of facts.”
Mayor Brian Wiese agreed with Harrison. He said he noticed the issue raised in the PQB News again.
Council approved the motion and a report will be presented at a future meeting.
